Personal Biography:
Kuoching Peng comes from the Specialty Chemicals Division of Everlight Chemical Co., Ltd., a well-known manufacturer of UV absorbers and light stabilizers. He is a technical engineer who specializes in research on improving the weather resistance of polymers such as sealants and adhesives. The main research project is to extend the performance of adhesives and sealants, especially polyurethanes, hybrid polymer resins, to achieve high functionality and long-term durability.

Effective UV stabilization for state-of-the-art silane hybrid polymer sealantsModern hybrid sealants, as known as SMP technology (STPE, SPUR, STP-E, etc.), are widely applied in construction and automobile field. Black, gray and white sealants are the mainstream in the market, and there are increasing demands for transparent ones. However, since the content of filler (i.e. carbon black, Titanium dioxide) in transparent sealant is lower, its physical property and weather resistance are not as good as colored products. Therefore, we use DOE method and select experimental factors such as resin, light stabilizer, and antioxidant to compare the differences in physical properties of sealants with different formulas after weathering tests. The DOE results show that when varying the resin, light stabilizers and antioxidant with different intensity, the degrees of effect to physical property and weather resistance of transparent and colored sealants will be changed. The research conclusion can provide a reference direction for adjusting the weather resistance performance of SMP sealant in the overall formula design.
