Presentation title:
The construction of novel polyurethane adhesive with end-of-life chemical upcycling propertyPresentation Description:
The global effort to reduce polymeric waste entering oceans and land-fills has become more urgent as the scale of the problem has been increasingly concerned. A major challenge in developing recyclable polymeric materials is the inherent conflict between the properties required during and after their life span. In particular, materials must be strong and durable when in use, but undergo complete and rapid degradation, ideally under mild conditions, as they approach the end of their life span. Among all adhesives, polyurethane adhesive stands out for its superior tunability to meet diverse practical requirements, thus becomes indispensable to modern life. Current recycling approaches are economically unattractive and/or lead to recycled products with inferior properties, thus making their large-scale implementation unviable. This presentation provides a brand-new solution to this problem. By introducing dynamic covalent bond into the polyurethane skeleton, a thermal or chemical stimulus removable and degradable two-component polyurethane adhesive is obtained, making our own contribution to green ecology and low-carbon environmental protection.
